Last Friday, 7 June, a training and dissemination day on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), organised by Inurban, was held in the assembly hall of our offices in Yecla. This event, entitled ‘Towards sustainability’, was attended by leading experts in the field and was opened by the Mayoress of Yecla, María Remedios Lajara.
The first speaker was Longinos Marín, director of the Chair of Corporate Social Responsibility at the University of Murcia. Marín gave an introduction to the concept and definition of CSR, explaining the importance and role of companies in the implementation of socially responsible practices. He also highlighted how CSR can act as a tool for competitive improvement, linking the pillars of business competitiveness with social responsibility, and outlined a roadmap for companies to embark on their path towards CSR.
Pedro Jesús Cuestas, deputy director of the Chair of CSR at the University of Murcia, then stressed the importance of training in this field and the need for a specialised CSR department within companies. He also presented the range of training in this area offered through the UMU Chair of CSR. During his speech, Cuestas also presented the master's degree in CSR organised by the Chair of CSR at the University of Murcia, highlighting its relevance for the training of professionals in this area.
Then it was the turn of Álvaro Pérez, from Cifras Legal, who introduced the whistleblower channel and compliance as essential elements of CSR. Pérez explained the obligation for companies to implement a whistleblowing channel, how it works, the possible sanctions for not complying with these regulations and offered some advice on how to avoid these sanctions, highlighting the importance of compliance in business management.
Finally, Antonio López, deputy inspector of the Tax Agency (on leave of absence), addressed the opportunities for investment in R&D&I through the Tax-Lease system. López highlighted the tax deductions available for investments in film productions, Spanish audiovisual series and live shows, providing a detailed overview of the tax advantages that companies investing in these sectors can take advantage of.
The day was closed by Francisco Muñoz Soriano, president of Inurban, who highlighted our vision in this new context of sustainability, naming some of the points of action in terms of CSR that we are developing in our organisation, such as the BREEAM or LEED certificates with which we certify all our new projects.
The ‘Towards Sustainability’ day was a valuable opportunity for attendees to learn about CSR and its positive impact on business competitiveness.
