Digital security is currently a key issue for all companies, regardless of their sector or size. Aware of the growing threat posed by cyber attacks, Inurban attended the conference on cybersecurity organised by the Oficina Acelera Pyme (OAP) of the Spanish SME Acceleration Office of Federación Regional de Empresarios del Metal de Murcia (FREMM), the aim is to keep up to date on strategies to prevent and protect against cyber-attacks.
The event, which took place at the FREMM Business Centre on 7 February, brought together experts in the field of cybersecurity to discuss the most frequent threats faced by SMEs, as well as the best practices for dealing with them. The conference was opened by the Secretary General of FREMM, Andrés Sánchez, and moderated by the Director General of Digital Transformation, Javier Martínez Gilabert.
Among the speakers were José Ángel López, technical director of Skynet Systems; Juan Francisco Verdejo Moreno, inspector and head of the Cybercrime Group of the National Police; Armando Jurado Moreno, CISO of KIO Networks; Pablo Rabal, researcher at the Naval and Maritime Technology Centre; and Juan Manuel Castaño, Sales Engineer at WatchGuard Technologies.
During the day, three of the most common attacks faced by businesses were addressed:
Ransomware: This involves the exploitation of vulnerabilities to encrypt company information and demand a ransom in exchange for its recovery. The importance of regular backups and contingency plans was stressed.
CEO fraud: A type of social engineering attack targeting senior management or financial officers, whereby cybercriminals impersonate senior management to make fraudulent financial transfers.
Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS): This attack seeks to collapse a company's digital infrastructure, preventing it from operating and severely affecting its business.
Experts stressed the need to take appropriate security measures to protect against these threats. Some of the key recommendations were:
Use of advanced detection and response tools: Traditional anti-viruses have become obsolete and need to be replaced by more sophisticated systems that detect threats in real time.
Staff training and awareness-raising: Social engineering remains one of the main avenues for cyber attacks, so it is imperative to educate employees on good digital security practices.
Multi-factor authentication: Implementing additional verification measures for access to critical systems considerably reduces the risk of unauthorised access.
Constant monitoring and traffic analysis: Continuous monitoring of IT systems makes it possible to detect anomalies early and respond before they become serious incidents.
At Inurban, we are committed to information security and the protection of our systems. Attending events such as this one allows us to reinforce our prevention strategies and apply best practices in our daily operations.
We would like to thank FREMM and the Oficina Acelera Pyme for organising this event, which has undoubtedly been an excellent opportunity to share knowledge and strengthen the culture of cybersecurity in the business world.
We will continue to keep abreast of the latest trends and technologies in digital security to ensure a protected environment for our company, our customers and our partners.
